The purpose of this lesson is for students to identify what character is and what qualities someone with good character has. This lesson also addresses honesty and integrity, and how they are essential attributes of someone with good character.
Character describes our individual qualities. Honesty and integrity are important character traits. Honesty is the quality of telling the truth. Integrity is the quality of doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. Honesty and integrity are important qualities of someone with good character.
Activity 1: (10 minutes) ANCHOR PYRAMID CHART
Introduce the lesson with the slideshow and student check-in questions. Review the Pyramid of Happiness anchor chart. Review the fourth and fifth level of the pyramid and perform that action.
Make the connection of how being honest and having integrity increases our character. This makes us the best version of ourselves! Remind students about the actions associated with each level of the pyramid. Have a discussion:
Activity 2: (15 minutes) VIDEO & DISCUSSION
Before reading the following story, ask students to listen for ways that the Good Egg shows good character. Read The Good Egg by Jory John and Pete Oswald. Discuss with the students the good things the egg dids:
Activity 3: (10 minutes) CHARACTER TRAITS & BADGES
Use the slides to introduce different characteristics of good character. Discuss the image on the slide and how it demonstrates the characteristic named.
Show students the Character Badges and tell them that throughout the day and/or week, you will be awarding these badges to students you see making good choices and showing good character. They will be able to collect more than one if they demonstrate that quality. Other teachers can also share with you when they see good character in students. Name a few examples of what students might do to receive a badge.

Activity 4: (15 minutes) FABLES
Fables are stories that teach a lesson, often around showing good character. Before reading the following story, ask students to listen for which quality of character is being demonstrated in the fable. Read Boy Who Cried Wolf retold by Chase Leavitt. Discuss with students the quality they think is being demonstrated in the story. What evidence can the students use to support their reasoning?
Activity 5: (15 minutes) SCENARIO
Honesty and integrity are important qualities of someone with good character. Group the students together into small groups of 3 or 4 and then describe the following scenario to students:
Imagine you are playing alone in their backyard with a golf club. As you practice hitting golf balls across your yard, you get a little better and a little stronger. You begin to hit the golf ball further than you could before—all the way to the fence even! As you get more excited, you decide to see how far you can hit the golf ball. You draw back for a big swing, take a deep breath, and WHAM! The golf ball goes flying through the air and over the fence! At first, you’re excited and proud of yourself because you’ve never done that before, but then, you hear the CRASH and breaking of the neighbor’s glass window. Oops. You immediately feel bad—and scared. Nobody is around you and the neighbor is at work, so they wouldn’t know it was you either. You begin to worry about how much trouble you’re going to get into and you’re tempted not to say anything to anyone. What will you do?
Ask students to talk in their small group about what the best thing to do is. After allowing sufficient time for students to discuss, ask for some share-outs.
Explain how this example models integrity, or doing the right thing, even when no one is around or knows.

Presente la lección con la presentación de diapositivas y las preguntas de registro de los estudiantes. Revise el gráfico de anclaje de la Pirámide de la Felicidad. Revise el cuarto y quinto nivel de la pirámide y realiza esa acción.

Actividad 2: (15 minutos) VIDEO & DISCUSIÓN

Actividad 3: (10 minutos) RASGOS DEL CARÁCTER & INSIGNIAS
Use las diapositivas para presentar diferentes características de buen carácter. Discuta la imagen en la diapositiva y cómo demuestra la característica nombrada.
Muestre a los estudiantes el Distintivos de carácter y dígales que durante el día y/o la semana, otorgará estos distintivos a los estudiantes que observe que toman buenas decisiones y muestran un buen carácter. Podrán coleccionar más de uno si demuestran esa cualidad. Otros maestros también pueden compartir con usted cuando ven buen carácter en los estudiantes. Mencione algunos ejemplos de lo que los estudiantes podrían hacer para recibir una insignia.

Actividad 4: (15 minutos) FÁBULAS
Las fábulas son historias que enseñan una lección, a menudo en torno a mostrar un buen carácter. Actividad 5: (15 minutos) ESCENARIO
La honestidad y la integridad son cualidades importantes de alguien con buen carácter. Agrupe a los estudiantes en pequeños grupos de 3 o 4 y luego describa el siguiente escenario a los estudiantes:
Imagine que está jugando solo en su patio trasero con un palo de golf. A medida que practica golpear pelotas de golf en su jardín, se vuelve un poco mejor y un poco más fuerte. Comienza a golpear la pelota de golf más lejos de lo que podía antes, ¡incluso hasta la cerca! A medida que le emociona más, decide ver qué tan lejos puede golpear la pelota de golf. Retrocede para hacer un gran swing, respira hondo y ¡zas! ¡La pelota de golf sale volando por el aire y pasa por encima de la valla! Pida a los estudiantes que hablen en su grupo pequeño sobre qué es lo mejor que se puede hacer. Después de permitir suficiente tiempo para que los estudiantes discutan, pida algunos repartidos.
Explique cómo este ejemplo modela la integridad, o hacer lo correcto, incluso cuando nadie está cerca o sabe.
