The purpose of this unit is to understand the basic needs of humans as well as other needs that allow us to thrive. Students will explore the framework, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and will also discuss the 5 areas of well-being: physical, social, emotional, mental, and academic.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs contains levels of needs that humans must meet in order to feel their best:
Basic Needs: water, food, shelter, sleep, clothing
Safety: feelings of security and safety
Connection: friendship, love, and belonging
Esteem: accomplishments, recognition, and self-esteem
Actualization: focus on personal growth and potential
